The Loudoun Literacy Council offers a multi-session instructor training course several times a year. The training includes two Saturday sessions which go from 9:00 - 4. If you would like to teach students in basic literacy or ESL, call us at 703-777-2205 or email tutor@loudounliteracy.org to sign up.
The first training session introduces trainees to the experience of being an ESOL or ABE student. We look at learning styles and characteristics of adult learners, and have a panel discussion with a current tutor, teacher, and students.
The second session focuses on lesson planning using the tools brought together in the first session. Texts, online sources, and other resources are introduced. At the end of the second session trainees will have several plans that can be implemented in a class or tutoring setting.
Our trainers are professional teachers and trainers, with considerable classroom and literacy experience.
