Programs How You Can Help Classes & Events In the News Resource Center About Us

Be a Tutor

Would you like to help a low-literate adult learn to speak, read, write or understand English better? Or maybe help someone study for the GED test? Please contact (703) 777-2205 for more information.

Be an ELL Teacher

Would you like to be a teacher in an ELL class? You will be trained and placed with at least one other teacher. You do not need to speak a foreign language! Please call the Adult Literacy office (703) 777-2205 for our next teacher training class.

Download our Volunteer Profile Form here and e-mail it to tutor@loudounliteracy.org, or fax it to (703) 777-7260.

Other Adult Literacy Needs

If you have other skills and interests, or a schedule that suggests a more modest time commitment, consider supporting our program as an occasional translator, substitute teacher, or office volunteer. Phone Tanya Bittenbender at 703-777-2205 for more information, or visit our employment page for links to volunteer job descriptions.

Family Literacy Volunteer Opportunities

Our family literacy programs depend greatly on community volunteers. Here are some ways you can help us:

Sweet Dreams Program -- The Sweet Dreams program takes place in the Emergency Shelter and the Transitional Housing Shelter each Thursday evening for one hour. During that hour, volunteers read to the children living in the shelters. We model reading aloud to the parents and try to stress the importance of reading to your child on a daily basis. Our volunteers are scheduled two months in advance and we ask that you try to make at least a one-hour per month commitment to the program. Volunteers must attend an orientation session prior to volunteering. Please be aware that no volunteers under 15 are permitted at the shelter and any volunteer under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Head Start Program -- Put together monthly book packs, assist at family book parties, read weekly to Head Start students in Loudoun County schools

Contact Michele Hawes or Tanya Bosse for more information about any of these programs: 703-777-2205
